Folkwear

The folkwear in the region Pole (Prilep, Bitola), a large plain area in the middle part of Berziti ethnic area, according to the number of clothes and their decoration is known for being one of the most decorative in the past, and at the same time one of the heaviest folkwear worn by women in Macedonia.

Long canvas tunic-like shirts are decorated with densely embroidered motives in different colors, among which the red dominates in all its shades. The richness and diversity of the embroidered motives, their consistency and precision, characterize embroidery decorations as one of the most beautiful and most decorative in Macedonia.

The linen summer saya and the winter white woolen vest, decorated with embroidered motives, silver thread and beads, woven woolen, finely ornamented apron, consistent by color, manner of decoration and ornamentation, make a whole together with other parts of the folkwear.

Winter outfit is a felt cap, made from thick black felt, decorated with distinctive ornaments from lace and beads. Woolen, knit, tastefully colorful socks and leggings (woolen socks without the foot part), with footwear, shape the shoes on the feet.

The most decorative and most impressive is the wedding folkwear with particularly decorated bridal apron, the plait ornament from woolen black tassels, the embroidered head cover obrus, whose woven ends are with decorative geometric ornaments and tassels, and special richly embroidered head cover sokaj. In the shaping of the clothes impresses the rich folk embroidery in a a characteristic tapestry technique with abundant wealth of forms and the dominant red color. The folk jewelry, massive, diverse and numerous, complements the overall folkwear, giving it a special decoration.

The male folkwear in Prilep - Bitola field consists of numerous clothes: aba - from thin white woolen fabric, shirt of canvas with embroidered decorations, waistcoat of black felt, woven belt of dark red wool, as well as upper cloth of black felt, long to the knees. Specificity of the folkwear from this region is the use of apron as an integral part of the male folkwear.

The winter male folkwear is all from woolen rolled fabric shaek, formerly white, then black, and as a fashion trend, especially for younger, in dark red color. The numerous clothes that make up this folkwear - shirt, vest, waistcoat, trousers - decorated with black stripes are complemented with the colorful stripy - colorful woven belt. Woolen, knit socks and leather shoes are worn on the legs, and sheepskin hat on the head.
